Coco Chanel 20th Century Fashion Idol

“A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion.” Coco Chanel

A legend, known as one of the most influential individuals of the 20th century. First designer to ever create a new style and invent a new fashion industry. Changing the ordinary fashion statement of that era, the corset. Substituting the trend with a more comfortable elegant look seeming to be more casual. Her approach towards fashion was inspired by menswear. Styles consisted of trousers for women, simple suits, dresses, costume jewelry, and perfume. Famous for "the little black dress," Chanel suit, Chanel jacket, and Chanel No. 5 perfume.

It all began when she opened her first millinery shop in 1912 and offered women the chance to dress comfortable at the same time elegant. She was the first designer to introduce the trouser which at that time was only available to men. Her suits were perfectly tailored. She influenced women to perceive themselves in ways never thought of at that time. Not only did she have the power to change the way women thought of themselves but she changed their look.

Coco Chanel worked all the way up to her death in 1971 at the age of 88. Her fashion empire lives on through chief designer Karl Lagerfeld. He has had the capability to continue Chanel's inspiration to the world of fashion.

She believed in simplicity..
